The QA department and R&D provide support for the management and continuous improvement of the Company’s SQF, FSMA, and quality/safety systems, and this is responsible for leading efforts involved in new product/process development, improvements projects, and Sanitation. This position will provide strategic direction for company-wide focused analytics and will design policies and procedures to cover all aspects of SQF System. Evaluates, plans, direct, execute, and reports on activities related to the development of new products, improvements, or cost savings ideas, new cleaning and sanitation methods. This position also carries the responsibility to mentor team members, and to grow their skills & competencies for contributing to the Organization.
Responsibilities:
- Represent the company with regulatory agencies: FDA, Health Department, Sanitation District, State Water Board, etc.
- Develop, implement, update and monitor quality and food safety programs including prerequisite programs and regulatory compliance.
- Represent the company as a SQF practitioner, HACCP coordinator, Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) and recall coordinator. Provides scientific, technical and consultative support.
- Responsible of the SQF, Kosher, and Organic certification.
- Accountability of product releases. Manages the non-conformance of raw materials, intermediate and finished products.
- Provides support and direction to achieve Food Safety and Quality goals.
- Communicates with other functions to assure product safety, quality, and processes improvements are implemented and maintained.
- Administers quality and food safety management systems that support the overall goals and objectives of the business.
- Conducts facility food safety audits as well as manages second and third-party audits. Sets and manages the internal audit program and annual review for SQF and FSMA compliance, and any other food safety/quality audit.
- Monitors and verifies activities to ensure that all products coming in to and out of the facility meet quality and food safety standards.
- Updates existing food safety procedures and documentation to assure continued compliance with changing global regulations and industry standards/best practices.
- Ensure that all company food safety and quality procedures are followed and properly documented at all times. Evaluates and reports on quality and food safety statistics.
- Ensure customer complaints are effectively resolved in a timely manner. Works with Procurement to rapidly resolve supplier issues that may affect product quality or food safety.
- Hires, trains and supervises QA/QC, sanitation and R&D staff. Develops and manages QA/QC/R&D/sanitation.
- Represents the company’s interests at trade associations, industry forums, and conferences, as well as governmental meetings, as necessary.
- Approve process methods and product specifications.

Changes and updates to national and international food regulations and the SQF system

Technological developments
- Oversee the Pathogen Environmental Monitoring Program, chemical and microbiological testing of food products and environmental samples.
- Review and prepare documentation necessary for nutrition and regulatory compliance.
- Work in a cross-functional team and vendors as the R&D project leader to drive execution across multiple projects.
- Perform functions to facilitate the development of new products and formulas as requested by sales and customers.
- Research and incorporate new flavors, ingredients and processes into new product ideas.
- Creates and edits formulas, processing procedures, finished product specifications, and customer specifications.
- Collaborates with operations to optimize processes and production for existing items within the limits of product specifications.
- Manages nutritional software, Label Software, and New Item setup.
